The question of death is connected with the one of human life, which is accounted for either as the mere survival of the biological organism, or an experience that includes emotional, affective, and relational aspects. The psychological disciplines can help us examine the relationship between contemporary society, illness, death, the rituals that accompany these experiences, and the decision-making processes that are involved in the living will. Nowadays, medicine approaches the dying with the purpose of overcoming death and delaying its arrival instead of conjugating the technical aspects with the human and relational ones. The living will can be considered as an instrument that allows us to recover our awareness of death-related issues, to implement the therapeutic relationship, and to improve the quality of life in the last phase of human existence.[:]
